A native of North Carolina, Mezzo Soprano Kate Farrar has performed diverse roles with companies across the United States.

Her most recent roles include the title role of La Cenerentola with Portland Opera as well as Dorabella Così fan Tutte, Siébel Faust, and Giovanna Rigoletto. With Opera Saratoga, she appeared as Angeolina La Cenerentola as well as The Sorceress Dido and Aeneas. With North Carolina Opera she performed Wellgunde Das Rheingold, Claire Cold Mountain, and Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly. She will return this coming season to sing Third Lady Magic Flute. With Baltimore concert opera, she performed Frau Mary Der Fliegende Holländer and will be singing The Secretary The Consul in their upcoming production. As a young artist with Chautauqua Opera, she performed Kate Pinkerton and Emily The Ballad of Baby Doe. With Piedmont Opera in Winston-Salem, she performed various roles including Mercedes Carmen, Frau Mary, and Mary Warren The Crucible. She appeared with the New York Opera Exchange, singing Mercedes and Alisa Lucia di Lammermoor.

A graduate of the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the UNC-School of the Arts, she performed Arminda La Finta Giardiniera, Giulietta Les Contes D'Hoffman, Miss Wingrave Owen Wingrave, and Meg Page in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor.

She appeared in concert with various organizations including Portland Opera, North Carolina Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, and Chautauqua Opera. She joined the North Carolina Symphony to sing De Falla's El Sombrero de Tres Picos. As a fellow with the A.J Fletcher Opera Institute, she performed the Mezzo Solo in Verdi's Requiem.

Kate holds a MM in Opera Performance from The A.J Fletcher Opera Institute and a BM in Vocal Performance from UNC-Greensboro. Her awards include an Encouragement Award from the Chautauqua Opera Guild (2014), and North Carolina State Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Council Competition (2014).
